Swackhamer video contest

January 25th, 2010

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation is proud to announce the third annual Swackhamer video contest. Last year, 120 applicants created short videos on the topic of Nuclear Disarmament.

In addition to cash prizes of $1,750, the winning videos will be shown at the 2010 Non-Proliferation Treaty Conference at the United Nations in New York. This is an excellent opportunity for students to display their abilities to thousands of professionals worldwide. Finalists will be determined by a distinguished panel of judges based upon originality of ideas, analysis of subject matter and clarity of expression.

The 2010 Swackhamer video contest topic is:

Shortly after nuclear weapons were first invented, Albert Einstein stated: “The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophe.”

1. In what ways does humanity have to change its “modes of thinking” in order to survive and come together?
2. How can we avert the catastrophe that Einstein foresaw?

Please see link below for a complete guideline of rules, regulations, and deadline. I hope that you will pass this on to anyone interested.

[DancesWithFilms] Call For Entry 2010

January 25th, 2010

In our continuing effort to reach out to the independent filmmaking community - we’d like to let you know that the 13th Annual DANCES WITH FILMS is now seeking entries through March 25th.

Each year DWF searches to find the best and brightest of the independent film scene, premiering them in Los Angeles, arguably the filmmaking capital of the world.

Dances With Films is an American original. It was the first and still the only film festival in the U.S. solely geared to unknowns - mandating that all competition films have no known actors, directors, producers or writers.

Showcasing feature and short length narrative films, documentaries and music videos, 2010 brings expansion into the realm of all things mobile and internet with the creation of a New Media competition.

Submission Deadlines:

Jan 20, 2010 – Early Deadline

March 3, 2010 – Regular Deadline

March 25, 2010 - Late Deadline

DANCES WITH FILMS

FILM FESTIVAL

Los Angeles, California - USA

June 3rd to 10th, 2010

Our Mission and Objective since the beginning….

No Politics. No Stars. No Sh*t.

Simply put, DANCES WITH FILMS (known as the last independent independent film festival) is one of the last, best film festivals in the U.S. dedicated to introducing unknown works to the film industry. Located in the heart of Hollywood, DWF provides a rare opportunity to fully engage critics, film professionals and audiences alike. And while other festivals depend on stars to attract audiences, the films at DWF films are handpicked in strict accordance to quality…and quality alone.

This defiant code of independence has earned DWF solid respect and street credibility through its twelve years of existence. Consequently, an impressive array of distribution companies, as well as film and television development departments, cover DWF each year to see what’s new and different, and who is truly going places in the indie world.

DWF offers camera gear and other prizes up to $9,000 depending on the competitive section, although the more than 1000 filmmakers that have taken part in the festival since its inception insist that the best prize is to be a Dances With Films alumnus. Film artists like Will Schaeffer and Mark Olsen (HBO’S BIG LOVE) have premiered at DWF, as well as actors and directors like Kathryn Morris (COLD CASE), Kevin Rankin

(FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS), John Putch (UGLY BETTY) have all started out in DWF films.

The Press and public love the Festival, as do the filmmakers who have attended and benefited from the energy and connections that result.

DWF alums - and HBO Series “Big Love” creators - Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer give seriously high praise: “DWF manages to keep its focus on heart and soul while still putting small films on the map.” And up-and-coming writer/filmmaker team Steve Coulter and Dee Wagner gratefully declare that “Not only was DancesWithFilms the hands-down coolest festival we went to, but simply put, it launched our film. It definitely upped our pedigree in the industry and opened many doors for us. We signed a deal to distribute our short, ETIQUETTE MAN, as a direct result of the screening at the Festival.”

Just last year, John Mann, director of the Audience Award Winner, Pissing Vocal Gold, was approached and signed by William Morris Endeavor. He is currently developing two feature projects with Dreamworks Animation and writing a live action feature for Paramount.

No wonder The Hollywood Reporter raves that DWF is “the defiant fest of Raw Talent.”

For your chance to be part of this festival that puts celebrity and politics aside to focus on the filmmaker, submit to Dances With Films today!
